The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame soulman, Bobby Womack, is back, and will be releasing his first original album after 18 years! The album is called 'The Bravest Man in the Universe' and will be released in June later this year.
Womacks prime was in the 70's with hits such as "What Is This" und "If You're Think You Are Lonley Now". In 1997, Quentin Tarantino featured his song "Across 110th Street" in his movie 'Jackie Brown', which brought him a lot of attention from a younger audience.
Co-produced by the man of many trades Damon Albarn (Blur,Gorillaz) and XL Recordings founder Richard Russell, it also features Lana Del Rey as a guestsinger, and samples the mighty Gil-Scott Heron.
Womack is a poet and a true lyricist. With his gritty, intenese vocal ability, he grabs you directly where it matters. And he shows it yet again in his first single from the new album 'Please forgive my heart' which portrays the perfect imperfections in his voice and lyrical abilities floating over a minimalist, carrying beat.
He is not trying to recreate any of his old material, but taking on a modern approach while still retaining his familiar, classic touch.
